Volubilis is definitely an ancient Roman city where you should be careful about keeping a good eye with the ground. There are many mosaics here and an impressive quantity of them are in excellent conditions. Practically all that are of much value are fenced in, but not more than what allows them to be easily looked at.

These remarkable mosaics, which are complex and amusing, are also uniform in this direction which were created of only one materials. They composite, consist of several types of stones, glass tesserae and parts of pottery, posed on a kind of cement and mortar.

Volubilis was a Roman payment built on what was probably a carthaginoise city, dating from the 3rd century BEFORE JESUS Volubilis CHRIST was a central administrative city for the present part of Roman Africa, responsible for the grain producing in this fertile area, and exports towards Rome. Volubilis also managed contacts with the tribes of Berber which the Novels never managed to remove, but until which only came to cooperate with the Novels for the mutual advantages.
Currently a maroco-britanic academic team seriously activates itself to protect the site and to preserve her Islamic inheritance. It is envisaged over five years and should have a considerable impact on the safeguarding of the Roman ruins. It will also make it possible to operate a new opening on the past of the city. But most urgent is to take care of the conservation of the remarkable mosaics.

With the difference of so much of other Roman cities, Volubilis was not abandoned after the Novels lost their balance in the present part of Africa at the 3rd century. Even the Latin language survived during centuries, and like not replaced before the Arabs conquered North Africa towards the end of the 7th century. People continued to live in Volubilis for more than 1.000 years more.
